The Think Coromandel Gig Guide…
Encapsulating every gig and event on the Coromandel Peninsula. Check out the monthly calendar, discover a new artists every month, and read out news and articles to find out what makes the Coromandel tick creatively.
The Think Coromandel Gig Guide began in Dec 2017 with the desire to help connect our little townships dotted through out the Coromandel Peninsula. Encouraging our community to get out the house whilst simultaneously promoting my Coromandel based group art exhibitions, seemed like a good idea. Happily, it’s gone strength to strength and has rewardingly grown into it’s own thing and is now a co-creation with my talented art-minded friend Emma Mudgway.
From October through to April each year we produce a monthly online calendar that freely promotes Coromandel-wide all the gigs and events happening on the peninsula. We made the move from print format to digital in 2020 because of the effect the pandemic had on our events scene. Whilst we miss gathering our friends for monthly folding sessions (yes we used to fold by hand!) Online is what works best for us at present.
You can find our monthly gig guide calendar online at www.thinkgigguide.com. Check it out and sign up for your monthly newsletter to get your Coromandel Gig Guide Calendar direct to your inbox.
Every month we feature a different artist. It’s been an absolute pleasure to connect with these artists through this project. The Gig Guide promotes musicians, artists and events, and it’s also helped us to throw several community events ourselves. We’ve held four collaborative Art Exhibitions over the past few years, featuring emerging artists and local musicians. In October 2019 we took it a step further and held a 3 day Arts Festival in Whitianga featuring live Street Art by Sean Duffell, alongside art classes, live music, artists at work, a market of artists, art exhibitions and several film screenings. We’ve also been dabbling with bringing more well known musicians to the Coromandel, no easy feat it turns out but fun none the less.
We have a few more events in the pipeline, so follow us on facebook or instagram to stay up to date.
We are currently supported by local artists and small businesses around the Coromandel and are forever grateful for the consistent encouragement and community engagement.
